OTT Biggest Reason for Baby John Disaster?

Baby John was a highly anticipated title and Varun Dhawan had put a lot of faith in the movie. But it has disappointed audiences and has not done very well at the box office as well.

It was expected that the movie would have a 25 crore opening and go on to make at least 200 crores at the box office. But it made 11 crores only on the first day.

Baby John had its release on Christmas and making such a bad opening on such a big holiday is very lame indeed. And a drop in the collections was expected too. But Baby John’s fall was huge. On the second day, it only made 4 crores and a bare 3 crores on day 3.

The movie is struggling to even make 50 crores now and it looks like the lifetime collection of Baby John will not be any bigger than 50 crores.

One big possibility behind this huge failure is probably Varun’s OTT storytelling. Most of his recent projects came out directly on OTT and audiences might not be very inclined to watch him in theaters for that.

He came out with Citadel: Honey Bunny recently. His last movies like ‘Bawal’ and ‘Coolie No. 1’ were released directly on OTT. People might find it not worth it to buy tickets to see him on big screens for that.

Varun’s upcoming films will be Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari, Hai Jawani To Ishq Hona Hai, Border 2 and there is a possibility that these titles might do something different to change the course of his career.
