Concerns around OTT platforms and content quality continue to grow. Amid this debate, Taapsee Pannu shared her honest views on how major streaming platforms currently operate. She said many platforms now follow strict criteria while acquiring films.
In a recent interview while promoting Assi, Taapsee Pannu stated that OTT platforms avoid films that are not mounted on a big scale. According to her, projects that are not box office successes struggle to find space on major streaming services.
She further expressed concern that in the near future, films like Assi may not even get an OTT release. She believes platforms are increasingly focused on big budget and event based films. This trend may limit opportunities for smaller or experimental projects.
Taapsee Pannu said, “OTT doesn’t want these kinds of films either, which are not big scale or event based. Their clear mandate states that they only want to take those films which are Box office success”. Her statement reflects frustration over the shifting priorities.
She pointed out that not every filmmaker can create high octane, large scale entertainers. If OTT platforms continue favouring big budget films, several genres could remain unexplored. This may reduce diversity in storytelling across digital platforms.
OTT platforms were initially seen as a space for creative freedom and fresh voices. However, current acquisition patterns appear to move away from that purpose. If the focus remains only on box office hits, audiences may lose access to varied themes and perspectives.
