The first impression that one gets on watching the trailer is dejavu. We have seen all this before and probably on a more slick and grand level. Sanjay Leela Bhansali has made a career out of these historical productions. However, Panipat is from Ashutosh Gowarikar. He has made films like Lagaan and Jodha Akbar in the past but has lost his touch long ago.
Jodha Akbar that came way back in 2008 is the last decent outing from Ashutosh Gowarikar. His previous outing Mohenjo Daro, another epic undertaking was a huge disappointment. The trailer of Panimat makes it look like it is far away from Jodha Akbar, and closer to Mohenjo Daro. The blandness in writing and execution despite grand visuals is a significant concern. The lead actor adds to the problems of Panipat, in addition. The background score by Ajay Atul easily stands out among all these.
Check out the trailer below. Panipat also features Kriti Sanon in the female lead and Sanjay Dutt as Ahmad Shah Abdali is the ultimate nemesis. The movie hits the screens on December 6th all over.
