Comedian Kapil Sharma recently found himself at the centre of a controversy regarding a question he asked filmmaker Atlee Kumar, who had come to the show to promote his film ‘Baby John’.
During the show, Kapil had remarked, “Atlee sir, you’re so young. Has it ever happened that when you met a star for the first time, they didn’t recognize you and asked, ‘Where is Atlee?’”
Atlee has responded to this question in a highly graceful manner, asserting the importance of judging by heart rather than appearance.
His response was, “In a way, I understood your question. I’ll try to answer. I’m actually very thankful to AR Murugadoss sir. Because he produced my first film…”
“…He asked for a script, but he didn’t see how I’m looking, and whether I’m capable of it or not. But he loved my narration. I think the world should see that. By appearance we should not judge, by heart you have to judge.”
Many users on social media suggested that Kapil’s question to Atlee was a racial jibe in disguise.
Although Kapil responded to the criticism by going on the offensive, claiming that he did not say any racial insult, social media has not bought it a bit.
His response brought forth more bashing, with users calling out his hypocrisy.
One user said, “You didn’t talk. but you implied directly and laughed when Atlee said he’s understanding where you were hinting at. shame on you Kapil.”
Yet another user bashed the comedian by commenting, “What else do you mean by ‘where is Atlee?’ Yes you are talking about his skin colour here!”
With Kapil Sharma under fire from all fronts, it will be interesting how far deep his irresponsible statement lands him in trouble.
