Ajay’s Raid 2 Short of Superhit? Who’s to Blame?

Ajay Devgn’s Raid 2 hit the cinemas on May 1, 2025, and in spite of receiving mixed reviews, the movie has turned out to be a clean box office success.

Trade experts calculate that its lifetime collections may touch Rs. 130-140 crores, which would make it one of the top-performing films in Bollywood this year. But the celebration has been slightly subdued, with viewers calling it an above-average but not cannot-miss cinematic experience.

The North Indian box office has witnessed Raid 2 ruling as the top-performing Hindi movie in May, but its dominance will be challenged by the upcoming release of Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning (Mission Impossible 8).

The Tom Cruise-starring movie, which will have an early Indian release on May 17, 2025, boasts huge expectations due to the massive and dedicated fan base of the franchise in India. The last part, Mission Impossible 7, raked in Rs. 105 crore net from India, and the new instalment should beat that record.

By the time Mission Impossible 8 reaches theaters, Raid 2 will already be two weeks into its run and will have most of its box office potential already achieved.

Although Raid 2 itself is a solid success, the scale, thrill, and theatrical value of Tom Cruise’s blockbuster are likely to outshine its success, making Mission Impossible 8 a formidable contender and potentially putting an end to Raid 2’s run before it has a chance to achieve superhit status.
