After the massive success of M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story, a new cricket biopic is on the cards – this time on Sourav Ganguly.
With Rajkummar Rao in the lead and Vikramaditya Motwane directing, it’s already generating buzz. But can it recreate the magic of Dhoni’s story?
Ganguly himself has endorsed Rao for the role and praised his dedication. Motwane, known for his engaging stories, wants to take Ganguly’s journey beyond cricket.
Unlike Dhoni’s rags-to-riches story, this one will focus on Ganguly’s leadership and administrative influence, making it a new take on sports biopics.
While Dhoni’s biopic was about emotions and personal struggles, Ganguly’s will be about his battles with the cricketing establishment and his impact as BCCI president.
Ganguly visited Eden Gardens for research and the film promises an authentic portrayal of Dada’s legacy.
Dhoni’s biopic made ₹215.4 crore thanks to its emotional depth and Sushant Singh Rajput’s performance.
Rao is known for his natural acting and can bring a new kind of intensity. The challenge is to balance the on-field drama with Ganguly’s off-field battles.
With a great cast, a good director and a strong story, Ganguly’s biopic has all the ingredients to be a hit.
Whether it will surpass Dhoni’s film, only time will tell but it’s going to be a must-watch for cricket and cinema lovers.
