Filmmaker Nitesh Tiwari’s ambitious mythological project Ramayana is progressing rapidly, with reports suggesting that filming for Ramayana 2 has begun in Mumbai. The project is widely being described as one of Bollywood’s most ambitious mythological spectacles.
According to industry reports, Ranbir Kapoor, who plays Lord Ram, has already started shooting important sequences. These scenes reportedly take place after Sita’s abduction, marking a crucial stage in the story as the narrative begins moving towards the journey to Lanka.
Insiders claim the story has been divided into two large scale parts. While postproduction work on Part 1 is still underway, production for the second installment is moving forward quickly. The team is reportedly maintaining an aggressive schedule to keep the timeline intact.
A report by India Today suggested that the current schedule may run for nearly two months. Several large action sequences and emotional moments are planned. Lavish sets representing locations connected to Lord Ram’s journey towards Lanka have already been constructed.
Veteran actor Sunny Deol is expected to join the shoot soon to film his portions as Lord Hanuman. The schedule is also expected to include scenes featuring Yash as Ravana and Ravi Dubey as Lakshman, bringing several key characters together.
Ramayana Part 1 is currently scheduled for a Diwali 2026 theatrical release. The film features Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi, and Ravi Dubey among the main cast members and is positioned as a large scale cinematic retelling of the epic.
Reports also suggest that a rough cut of Part 1 was screened in Los Angeles, where it reportedly received strong reactions for its scale, visual effects, and storytelling approach.
Despite speculation around producer Namit Malhotra’s reported Rs 4000 crore investment, fans remain highly optimistic. Many believe the project could deliver a large scale cinematic experience comparable to global mythological productions.
The team’s commitment to the project is reflected in the tight production schedule. Work on Ramayana 2 has already started even before the release of the first film, which is currently expected to arrive in 2027.
Fans are now eagerly waiting for more updates and behind the scenes glimpses as the story of Lord Ram’s journey to Lanka continues to take shape on screen.
