Ramayana: Can Ranbir Beat SRK & Dhurandhar’s Opening?

Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana is all set to arrive in Diwali 2026. The entire world is excited to see the magnum opus that has been in the headlines for a long time, specifically after the arrival of the teaser and trailer.

With a few more weeks left, predictions have already started about the box office and the position that Ranbir Kapoor might hold if the film creates history in terms of its numbers. Although advance bookings have not started yet, social media and other online reports have already spoken up about the possibilities.

As of now, the majority have predicted an opening of Rs. 60-65 crores. Since the film is releasing on a non-holiday, it will add another title to Ranbir’s list in terms of a big opening without a festival.

Ranbir might become bigger than Ranveer Singh. Although Dhurandhar The Revenge started at Rs. 75 crores, it was released on a partial holiday. For the unversed, Ranbir has previously delivered a Rs. 50 crore opening with Animal in 2023. The action-drama, directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, was also released on a non-holiday.

The records can also help Ranbir overtake the ones created by Shah Rukh Khan with Pathaan and Jawan. Although Pathaan was released on a non-holiday, it had an opening of Rs. 55 crores.

On the other hand, the predictions have led to a different debate on social media. Considering that this is a magnum opus, netizens addressed the fact that it should have started at Rs. 100 crores or at least Rs. 90 crores in India. People said that this should be possible since it is arriving in theatres a few days before Diwali.

Social media users compared the situation with Dhurandhar 2, saying that Aditya Dhar’s spy thriller was made on a budget of only Rs. 250 crores. Netizens wrote that Ramayana is made on a bigger scale and can create a better record than Dhurandhar 2, creating a mark for other big upcoming films and a tough fight for those movies to cross the numbers by even a smaller margin.

As of now, Ranbir Kapoor’s fans have showcased their support, saying that since the advance bookings have not started, it is too early to decide what will happen with the film on the first day. However, they are confident that it will break a few records.

Ramayana has been dealing with severe criticism for various reasons, including an underwhelming trailer and the promotional strategies of the producers. Only time will tell if the makers will rectify their mistakes by offering an entertaining product for the big screen.
