The Ba*ds of Bollywood has released on Netflix, offering viewers a fresh take on Bollywood life. The show satirises the film industry, exposing behind-the-scenes politics and hypocrisy, while featuring a multistarrer cast and numerous cameo appearances from top actors.
One cameo, featuring Ranbir Kapoor, has sparked debate online. In the episode, Ranbir is seen smoking an e-cigarette without any health warning, which has raised concerns among viewers and led to calls for legal action on social media.
Depicting e-cigarette use is legally prohibited under the Prohibition of Electric Cigarettes Act 2019. Some netizens argue that Ranbir’s scene violates the law, while others feel the controversy is unnecessary and distracts from the show’s creative value.
Critics note that while cigarettes remain widely available due to government revenue from taxes, online content depicting vaping faces stricter scrutiny. The focus on Ranbir Kapoor’s cameo is intensified because of Aryan Khan’s earlier legal controversies, including his high-profile drug case.
Despite the controversy, The Ba*ds of Bollywood** continues to generate discussions, highlighting both the bold storytelling in OTT content and the complexities of legal and social reactions to on-screen depictions.
