Sources suggest that Ranveer Singh’s upcoming zombie thriller Pralay is being mounted on a massive budget of around 300 Cr. The film is directed by debutant Jai Mehta and is planned as a large scale project with extensive VFX support from Hollywood technicians.
As per reports, Pralay is set during the COVID-19 pandemic and features Ranveer Singh alongside Kalyani Priyadarshan as they battle deadly zombies. The genre choice has raised curiosity, as zombie films have not traditionally worked well with Indian theatrical audiences.
International franchises like Resident Evil and Zombieland already enjoy strong popularity in India. OTT series such as All Of Us Are Dead have also built a loyal fanbase, making it harder for a similar Indian film to stand out theatrically.
Even filmmaker duo Raj and DK explored the zombie genre with Go Goa Gone, which received mixed responses and failed to become a clean hit. This history makes Pralay a risky bet despite its scale and star power.
Industry observers feel the makers may be overconfident by investing such a large sum in a saturated genre. While Dhurandhar boosted Ranveer Singh’s standing, that success was largely credited to director Aditya Dhar and strong collaboration rather than star appeal alone.
With expectations riding high, Pralay is expected to go on floors between May and June this year. Its reception will depend on execution, storytelling, and whether audiences are ready to embrace zombies on such a grand Indian canvas.
