Action-Comedy Director Goes To Horror Real Or Fake?

There were recently rumours doing the rounds that Rohit Shetty was planning a horror film starring Nushrratt Bharuccha, with E Niwas directing it. Given Shetty’s reputation for action-packed films and comedy entertainers, the idea of him exploring horror came as a surprise.

While Golmaal Again touched on supernatural themes, it was more comedy than true horror—it didn’t really dive into the eerie atmosphere or psychological depth that defines the genre.

The speculation grew stronger when some reports claimed Shetty was drawn to the emotional storytelling that horror offers, and that Nushrratt was his first choice because of her performance in Chhorii.

But these rumours were quickly put to rest when Shetty issued an official statement calling them “false and baseless.” His response highlights a broader issue in Bollywood media, where the rush to report often overshadows the need for fact-checking.

Even if such a project was being considered, it’s worth asking whether Shetty’s filmmaking style suits the horror genre. Horror isn’t just about sudden scares—it relies heavily on building tension, creating mood, and subtle storytelling.

These aren’t traits typically found in Shetty’s loud, masala-style films. Though E Niwas does bring some experience with intense narratives, the combination still feels mismatched.

It’s also important to remember that horror films in India often face an uphill battle—audiences are picky, and big names alone don’t guarantee success.

This rumour, whether rooted in truth or not, reflects both the industry’s creative ambitions and how quickly speculation can spread. For now, this remains just that—a rumour, not a real project in motion.
