Wake Up: Another Re-release No One Asked

Bollywood has been heavily relying on remakes for quite some time now. With the trend becoming underwhelming for several makers, Bollywood is now relying on re-releases for over a year.

While the phase started with masterpieces like Rockstar, Veer-Zaara, and Laila Majnu, it seems that fans are now over this trend and want something new from the industry.

As the re-release trend is in full swing, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s highly decorated film Padmaavat will be once again showcased in cinemas on January 24th to celebrate 7 years of the film.

While the film was a masterpiece with strong performances by Shahid Kapoor, Ranveer Singh, and Deepika Padukone, it was highly controversial at the time of its release.

It was a stellar film and was highly praised for its overall execution. Despite being good enough to achieve over 500 crores at the box office, fans are in no mood to re-watch the film once again.

While some of the re-releases like Tumbbad and Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani worked, there might be no scope for Padmaavat to work. What Bollywood needs right now is original and fresh scripts and ideas.

As re-releases are becoming a tiring concept, it remains to be seen if fans will be looking forward to Padmaavat’s re-release or if will it be another wake-up call for the film industry to work on original scripts.
