SRK’s words at WAVES Summit 2025 have given new meaning to the old Bollywood insider vs outsider battle-a story Kartik Aaryan’s PR has been peddling for years to make him the industry’s very own “outsider”.
Kartik’s carefully crafted public image, built through stories of adversity and rejection, tries to win over audience sympathy by highlighting his non-filmy background and the obstacles he’s overcome thanks to nepotism.
This outsider branding has become so strong that even actors from Bollywood families are now trying to present themselves as “strugglers” to stay grounded. SRK, the biggest outsider of all, turned the whole debate on its head.
He rejected the insider-outsider dichotomy, saying the industry doesn’t care about your background-what matters is will power, hard work and persistence to create your own space.
In SRK’s view, indulging in self-pity or looking at disadvantages will only drain the energy required to succeed. He said everyone starts as insignificant to the industry and it’s persistence, not background that gets you respect and opportunities.
SRK’s statement undermines the victim card that’s often played for PR mileage. His story-though he’s an outsider-embraced by the industry indicates that privilege operates when self-confidence and grit are the real game-changers.
In a world where “outsider” has become a marketing tool, SRK’s words remind us that success is not so much about labels but about hard-hustle.
