There was a huge controversy regarding the Oscar submission from India this year. There were films like ‘All We Imagine As Light’ but they were not selected for submission. Aamir Khan’s production venture ‘Laapata Ladies’ which also gathered a lot of praise was selected by a jury of 13 people.
But taking the success ratio of ‘All We Imagine As Light’ into consideration we can see how big the missed opportunity was. Laapata Ladies is now out of the competition.
Amol Palekar had revealed in an interview with Lallantop that when he was a member in the jury, he had to face pressure from Bollywood lobbies to send a movie of a big star to the Oscars.
The Jury had Chaitanya Tamhane’s ‘Court’ as the favourite, but a superstar had pressurised them to take his film into consideration. People assume that he is talking about Aamir Khan and his film PK.
