Sikandar OTT Deal: Makers Creating Fake Narrative

Salman Khan’s Sikandar is scheduled to arrive in Eid this year and expectations are sky-high from his fans considering that it is being directed by A.R. Murugadoss.

While the release date approaches closer, the latest update is that the film has recovered a portion of its budget with a non-theatrical deal, priced at Rs. 165 crores. It includes satellite, digital, and music rights, as per a report by Pinkvilla.

Apart from this, Netflix has purchased the streaming rights for Rs. 85 crores and it is expected to reach the mark of Rs. 100 crores in case the film accumulated almost Rs. 350 crores at the box office. The satellite rights have been taken by Zee for Rs. 50 crores whereas the music rights have gone to Zee Music Company for Rs. 30 crores.

The above-mentioned figures are only included in the production cost and exclude the fees of Salman Khan for the film. However, the makers are yet to share more details on the same.

But this has also raised questions about the makers. Are they not confident about the film’s success? Are they worried that the film might not take a big opening?

The non-theatrical deal is possibly an attempt by the producers to claim that the film is a hit even if it fails to create an impact at the box office. The reason for this deal could be the negative response being received by the second teaser.

On the other hand, the film’s marketing has not been up to the mark where the major units are being released in the same month when the film is arriving on the big screen. But the strategy might prove to be helpful for Sikandar to record a big number.

Everything now depends on when the makers will announce an exact release date. This is something that should have been taken care of a long time ago. It’s too late now and the fate of the film is now in the hands of the audience and the response that would come out from the first show on the day of release.
