Sonu Nigam is a legendary singer of Bollywood who never shies away from speaking candidly about matters of importance. Recently, he shared his views on the lack of recognition of singers in awards like Padma Shri.
He shared a video on Instagram where he talked about how legendary singers who have greatly contributed to music are not acknowledged by the government. He shared that singers like Kishore Kumar, Alka Yagnik, Shreya Ghoshal, Sunidhi Chauhan and many others have not received proper praise for their lifelong contribution to music.
He opened his comment section for fans to write names of the singers who they think should get Padma Shri award. He also stated that many singers only get awards posthumously and it would be much more mindful to reward them while they are alive.
This single video initiated a lot of debate on social media and many people appreciated Sonu’s step. He has already received Padma Shri in 2022 but his concern for his colleagues and senior artists is commendable.
