Huge Blow to Aamir’s Plan: OTT Door Closed Forever?

Sitaare Zameen Par won a lot of hearts and undoubtedly left people with a smile as they walked out of theatres. However, when fans asked when they could watch the film at home, the answer they got was not what they expected.

Aamir Khan had declared that the film would not be available on any OTT platform, and many praised his decision for not succumbing to the pressure of streaming giants.

Reports surfaced before the film’s release claiming that Aamir was approached by platforms like Prime Video and Netflix, but he turned down all offers.

Many suspected this was just a marketing gimmick to push more people into theatres and sell more tickets. With a collection of around ₹162 crores, the film performed decently at the box office, and maybe Aamir achieved what he was trying to aim for.

Reports now suggest that while the film still won’t be available on OTT, it will be released online in 4K quality.

Following a pay-per-view model, those who want to watch the film at home can either buy or rent it on YouTube.

But this has raised serious concerns about piracy. It didn’t take long for a 4K HD version of the film to be leaked and made available across torrents and Telegram channels.

Aamir was reportedly expecting to earn an additional ₹80–100 crore by selling the film to a major OTT platform, but when his demands weren’t met, he walked away from the deal.

That’s when he opted for a YouTube pay-per-view release.

However, piracy, the very problem he wanted to avoid, happened anyway.

Now, with free HD versions floating across the internet, it’s unlikely that many people will choose to pay to watch it on YouTube.

This has made many question Aamir’s business strategy. By rejecting OTT offers, he not only lost that revenue but also opened the door to massive online piracy.

While his move was bold and unconventional in an OTT-dominated market, it seems he may have failed in achieving what he set out to do. He tried to swim against the tide, but the odds were clearly against him.

His attempt may not have succeeded, but his courage to take such a stand deserves to be remembered. He might just be the only star in the industry willing to take such a bold risk, and fans hope he continues making such daring choices for the sake of cinema.
