South Films Turn Savior for Hindi Theatres

Bollywood has had a serene period without much to boast about in terms of releases appealing to the masses just about the time when the silver screens found a new dawn.

A few heroes appeared within this gripping cinema evolution surprising a majority wherein stories from the South moulded some of Bollywood’s abandoned halls for folks across the country with slick narratives dubbed into Hindi, making Hall attendance click.

Last month, the Malayalam action thriller “Marco” did just that. Opened transactionally with no fanfare or familiar star, it grossed over ₹15 crore on the strength of a riveting plot and some very good word-of-mouth.

There’s no doubt Marco represents yet another success of the past blockbusters like “HanuMan”, “Maharaja”, “Kantara”, and “Karthikeya 2”.

Trade watchers believe that the timing for the films couldn’t have been better. Each and every film filled in a niche in their respective cinemas.

Most of all, great positive reviews from critics and audience endorsements accorded these films great lengths of commercial release and market footage.

The success of the southern films didn’t just present the audience with new, exhilarating stories. These films, appealingly packaged into the Hindi-speaking markets, finally began to showcase how the Indian film industry is alive and constantly evolving.
