Sunny Deol’s upcoming film Suryaa: Ant Se Aarambh Tak has landed in controversy even before its release. The film’s teaser, which promises a hard-hitting action drama, has drawn strong objections from doctors. They raised objection over its portrayal of violence against the medical fraternity.
The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has opposed the way doctors are portrayed in the teaser. The association said doctors are healers and should not be presented as targets of hatred or violence. IMA Finance Secretary Dr Piyush Jain also warned that glorifying violence against doctors could affect the trust between doctors and patients.
The Resident Doctors Association of AIIMS, Delhi, has also raised concerns over the teaser. The body said such sensationalised portrayals could misguide the public and potentially worsen the violence already faced by healthcare workers across the country.
The doctors’ bodies have urged the CBFC, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and the filmmakers to look into the issue. The controversy has now put the film under scrutiny even before it reaches theatres.
Interestingly, the CBFC has clarified that Suryaa has not yet been submitted for certification. The teaser may have promised an intense action entertainer, but the film has now found itself facing a very different kind of heat.
