Surprise BO Winners Bring Cheers to Industry

The month of May has surprisingly turned out to be decent for the Bollywood BO, with two unexpected films leading the charge.

Ajay Devgn’s RAID 2, initially dismissed for its alleged overly dramatic courtroom scenes and chest-thumping patriotism, the film has
shockingly turned out to be a strong hit, with a projected final gross of about Rs 170 crore.

This accomplishment is notable for a movie that sparked a lot of debate over its tone and relevance. Large crowds of people,
particularly from tier-2 cities, showed up at the theatres, proving that Ajay is still a hit among the wider population.

Meanwhile, despite its endless controversies and pre-release skepticism, Maddock Films’ Bhool Chuk Maaf, starring Rajkumar Rao and
Wamiqa Gabbi, had a quieter release but has managed to leave its mark at the BO.

Trade analysts are refraining from giving any exact figure due to the inflated numbers of self-bookings, but the unanimous opinion is that
the movie is a theatrical success.

In fact, this film might just become Rajkummar Rao’s biggest hit in mass centers after the Stree universe movies.

Both films, in their own unique ways, have challenged traditional expectations and predictions that only clean, controversy-free content can find commercial success.

As Bollywood continues to find stable ground, these movies serve as a reminder that risk—if hitting the right pulse—can still find rewards.
