Good Film, Disastrous Numbers: Brutal BO Analysis

120 Bahadur has joined the list of films that earn critical acclaim and awards but struggle at the box office. This is worrying for the makers in a time when collections decide the fate of a film.

The film had no major competition. Yet it failed to show strong growth in the first weekend and the entire week. Trade experts have now shared their views on what went wrong.

Taran Adarsh said he has not watched the film. He added that the soundtrack did not connect with the audience.
Atul Mohan praised the film but felt that viewers have already seen many similar stories. He also believes that the music was the biggest drawback.

Karmic Films co-founder Suniel Wadhwa expressed a similar view. He said that the Indian public is not interested in watching a story about a lost battle. He recalled the success of 1964 and said its music drew people despite a slow initial response.

Distributor Raj Bansal said that Farhan Akhtar’s character was from Rajasthan, but his look did not match the role. He added that viewers see Pakistan as an enemy in cinema but do not feel the same emotional connect when it comes to China.

The war drama is clearly underperforming at the box office. Suniel said that nothing much has changed in such films. He felt that the army and supporting characters appear without any fresh treatment.

The situation once again shows that viewers want something unique. A familiar subject can still work but only with a strong hook. In today’s market, star power helps people overlook flaws and still watch a film.

Farhan’s film is now competing with big releases like Tere Ishk Mein and Dhurandhar. It remains to be seen how long it can stay in theatres.
