Why Cinema Industry Need More Stars Like Akshay Kumar?

Producer Ekta Kapoor recently shared a practical view on why the film industry needs actors who work consistently. While congratulating Akshay Kumar and Priydarshan for Bhooth Bangla, she said big hits earning 500 to 1000 crore come rarely. Such films mainly benefit top stars and producers, but offer limited support to theatres.

Ekta Kapoor explained that theatre owners and distributors gain more from stars like Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgn. Their frequent releases ensure a steady flow of content. Four moderate films often bring more consistent revenue than a single blockbuster.

She added that actors who take three years for one or two films do not help exhibitors much. A big hit may run for a few weeks, but theatres remain empty afterwards. This gap is usually filled by actors who release films regularly.

Industry experts believe the Telugu industry is facing a similar challenge. Stars like Ram Charan spend years on films such as Game Changer. If the film underperforms, there is a long gap before the next release. Jr NTR and Allu Arjun also take extended breaks, leaving fewer major releases.

If leading actors and directors continue to take years for each project, theatres may struggle to stay active. Akshay Kumar releases four to five films annually, supporting jobs and theatre operations. Even if one film fails, another release can help recover losses.

Releasing one film every few years is not enough to sustain the business. Tollywood is currently missing key seasons like summer due to lack of releases. While quality matters, long delays can harm the industry. Experts feel consistent output is crucial for theatre survival.
