Alex Garland, best known for his work on Annihilation and Ex Machina, has teamed up with A24 for Civil War, which will be released on April 12th. The film, starring Kirsten Dunst, Wagner Moura, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Cailee Spaeny, Karl Glusman, Sonoya Mizuno, Jonica T. Gibbs, and Jess Matney, follows America during the war.
The release date has been pushed forward by two weeks to accommodate more screenings. Garland, an Academy Award winner, also received Best Achievement in Visual Effects for Ex Machina and Best Writing, Original Screenplay.
Civil War is described by A24 as an “adrenaline-fueled thrilling ride across a near-future fragmented America poised on the razor’s edge.” According to the trailer, Nick Offerman portrays the President of the United States, and the military has been ordered to face the “Western forces” of California and Texas, who may have conspired to destroy the country. We observe fighting in the streets, and Kirsten Dunst and her family strive to record the pandemonium as they journey across the country to Washington, D.C.
A24 is working on new and future projects such as Civil War, Poor Things, Dream Scenario, Priscilla, and The Curse. Despite the continuing SAG-AFTRA strike, the studio continued filming on Mother Mary and Death of a Unicorn.
