HBO has declared that the Game of Thrones spinoff starring Jon Snow is no longer being developed. The fantasy franchise’s prequel series, which are based on the writings of George R.R. Martin, have carried over from the main series’ 2019 conclusion.
The original series’ Jon Snow, played by Kit Harington, has acknowledged that a spinoff was previously in production but is now shelved because there isn’t a compelling enough story to tell.
Harington intends to go back and finish the project. Though Kit Harington’s remarks imply otherwise, the Jon Snow spinoff has not advanced much since its inception. Based on George R.R. Martin’s novel Fire & Blood, House of the Dragon has been a hit show; its first season debuted in 2022 and broke viewing records for HBO.
The second season is scheduled to debut on June 16; further seasons are in the works. Prequel A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight, which is based on the Dunk and Egg novellas, has been ordered straight to series, with filming scheduled to begin in the spring of 2024. Both spinoffs dodge the contentious conclusion by taking place years before the events of Game of Thrones.
