The 75th Primetime Emmy Awards showcased a departure from the predicted winners. While “Succession” and “The Bear” stole the spotlight, the absence of accolades for “The Last of Us” and “Ted Lasso” left fans astounded.
“The Bear,” a FX comedy, emerged as the dark horse of the evening, securing the Best Comedy Series award, with lead actor Jeremy Allen White and supporting actress Ayo Edebiri claiming well-deserved wins. The show’s quirky charm and fresh perspective resonated with viewers, earning it a total of 10 awards, including surprises like lead actor Jeremy Allen White and supporting actress Ayo Edebiri.
Meanwhile, HBO’s “Succession” dominated the drama category, snagging Best Drama Series, with standout performances from Sarah Snook and Kieran Culkin who won the Lead Actress and Actor awards, respectively. The Roy family’s saga of power and betrayal proved irresistible to Emmy voters.
However, the evening’s most unexpected triumph came from Netflix’s “Beef.” Lee Sung Jin’s miniseries, a dark horse in its own right, took home five awards, including Best Limited/Anthology Series and lead actor and actress trophies for Steven Yeun and Ali Wong.
Notably absent from the winner’s circle were “The Last of Us” and “Ted Lasso,” despite their impressive nominations. Elton John, however, emerged as a surprising winner, joining the elite EGOT club with his outstanding variety special, “Elton John: Farewell From Dodger Stadium.”
