On the 17th, the official Twitter handle of the series announced, “Great news! We just received word from SAG that we have been approved for a waiver. We’ll continue shooting on Monday.”
Since the series had a couple of weeks remaining to wrap up production and had earned a reputation for treating its stars well, SAG-AFTRA granted the waiver. Jonathan Roumie and multiple SAG faces play crucial roles in the show.
“The Chosen” has become the first prominent project to receive an exemption and the first to commence filming after the strike began.
“The Chosen” is a historical drama that tells the story of Jesus through the eyes of those who knew him.
Reports also suggest that SAG will arrange waivers for indie films, as most U.S. films are associated with some big studio.
In addition to “The Chosen,” a couple of films will receive waivers from the union. The Simon West action-comedy “Bride Hard” will be included in the list along with other indie projects.
There is a possibility that “House of Dragons,” despite being part of Prime Video, might also receive a pass. The makers will be shooting overseas in the summer, subject to UK union rules.
