Lionsgate Making Monopoly?

Not all monopolies are bad, especially if you talk about the nostalgic board game. And as modern trends suggest, video games, toys, and board games are definitely the new source material for future films, keeping comic book movies aside.

Especially this year, Dungeons and Dragons made a strong statement as more and more mainstream studios are diving into the world of board game adaptation. And the trend isn’t new, as iconic films like Dungeons & Dragons, Jumanji, and Ouija have already been made.

And now, Lionsgate acquires the rights to Monopoly’s film adaptation.

Lionsgate has completed the acquisition of eOne, including film development rights for Hasbro’s Monopoly. The $375 million deal expands Lionsgate’s library with 6,500 films and shows. The Monopoly movie, in development since 2015, has seen various directors and stars attached, including Tim Story, Ridley Scott, and Kevin Hart.

With the acquisition finalized, the project aims to progress more substantially under Lionsgate’s ownership.

Monopoly, dating back to 1903, stands as a timeless classic, enchanting successive generations. The game’s iconic tokens, including the Scottie dog and top hat, evoke a profound sense of nostalgia. And as the new forms of adaptations are definitely working, Monopoly might give us the new hit.
