2013: Two struggled actors in Tamilnadu!

2013 proved to be a difficult year for actors like Kamal Haasan and John Abraham who both had to face vigorous opposition against the release of their respective films by two separate religious outfits. While John Abraham’s film Madras Cafe raised protests in Southern India over its depiction of LTTE, Vishwaroopam’s struggle first started over some confrontations with distributors over Direct-to-Home platform which then escalated to religious overtones when some Muslim groups opposed the portrayal of their community in Haasan’s Vishwaroopam.

This eventually led to the ban of the film by the state government paving the way for legal battle, to the point that Haasan threatened to leave the country. Eventually, a single judge’s decision lifted the ban on the hundred crore film and editing of a few scenes from the film finally ensured that Tamil audience could watch the movie. Now all eyes set on Kamal’s Vishwaroopam-2 which will hit screens early next year.
