5 Years! Rajamouli Must Be Crazy!

There is no other director in Indian cinema, who follows as elongated timelines as SS Rajamouli. If we look at the fact that he is taking a five years between two films.

It has been three years since the release of RRR, which hit the big screen on March 25, 2022, and his next film with Mahesh Babu is likely to release only in 2027.

The very fact that Rajamouli is having a good five years gap between the two films, shows the kind of animated production timelines and execution process that go into his films.

One might argue that the likes of Prashanth Neel and Sukumar are also able to deliver such 1000 crore films in a shorter span. But the kind of visual experience that Rajamouli delivers is what makes the difference here.

The kind of lasting impact that his films like Baahubali and RRR is what differentiate him from the rest. For instance, no one could have given an imagined in their wildest dreams about an Indian film going to the Oscars and Rajamouli made it happen with RRR.

These are the kind of long production timelines that gives him the creative freedom to sculpt a winning product. The kind of thrills that we experience while watching such content on big screen is unparalleled and such work understandably takes a lot of time.

Nevertheless, not many Indian directors in this current generation would be ready to spend as much as five years between two films.

At the end of it, we cannot expect Rajamouli to open up the 2000 crore market with the Mahesh Babu film now. This would certainly be his target now.
