Vivek Agnihotri proved that anyone can make a blockbuster film within a limited budget if they are able to demonize a specific religion and spread hate and fear among the majority.
The Kerala Story was another film that reinforced this point, showing that hateful propaganda sells. After the phenomenal success of these two films, there is a huge lineup of such films hitting the screens in the next few months.
72 Hoorain (72 Angels) is one such film set to release this week on 7th July. Although the director, Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan, claims that his film opposes Islamic terrorism rather than any particular religion, his intentions are quite clear.
Chauhan has been giving numerous interviews on YouTube channels known for spreading hate and propaganda. He has also been hosting spaces on Twitter, targeting the audience that made The Kashmir Files and The Kerala Story blockbusters.
Chauhan has also alleged that he and his family have received death and rape threats from certain individuals for making this film. However, there is no evidence to confirm whether these threats are genuine or if the director is seeking sympathy and more attention for his movie.
If the film succeeds in spreading its non-secular agenda and promoting hate towards the minority community, it will be no surprise if 72 Hoorain also turns out to be a big money spinner at the box office.
