First, let us start with the good news. The Kerala Film Federation’s meeting with the Chief Minister is successful. A promise seems to have been made regarding their demands. But, more importantly, the screening will resume from January 13th.
The latest on it is that almost 80 percent of the cinemas in Kerala would be screening Master on an opening day. It is extraordinary and mindboggling even to imagine that. The exhibitors want to show their solidarity to Vijay for backing them by holding Master for a theatrical release.
And now to the bad news. Vijay’s Master will not have a screening in Malaysia. It is the biggest overseas market for Tamil cinema and to not have any shows is a massive disappointment to everyone. The nation is yet to recover from the pandemic, and movie screenings seem to last on the priority list.
No show in Malaysia and limited and scattered screening across the globe mean Master won’t have the usual numbers from the overseas territory. It is a big market for Vijay and hence a major loss in revenue.
