Advance Booking: Will VD’s Debut Production Bring Cheers?

Two small yet significant films are releasing this Friday. They are Meeku Mathrame Cheptha and Aaviri. The former marks director Tharun Bhascker’s acting debut whereas the latter is Allari Ravibabu’s new flick.

Among the two, Meeku Makthrame Cheptha has got the bigger release. It has more shows and better timings compared to Aaviri. The only reason it has managed that is due to Vijay Deverakonda. It is the first production from the young star.

With production, it is mostly a win-win situation when the said film is different from the routine. The failure doesn’t affect that star, but if it’s a success, it also adds to the brand value. One just needs to look at Nani’s Awe in that regard.

However, Meeku Mathrame Chepthe is no high-concept film which becomes critic-proof for the fans. It is a new-age comedy with a unique idea for the premise. If the comedy clicks, all is well, but if it doesn’t, there will be negativity around it.

So far, despite the visible, aggressive promotion from the team and producer Vijay Deverakonda, the excitement in the audience is missing. The bookings are inadequate. It is now up to word of mouth to do the trick.

Aaviri needs Raviabu to be back to his prime form. Otherwise, its fate would be sealed on the first day itself. It has more to do with the lackluster fares from the director in the past.
