Jailer 2 Casting Updates: Fans in Panic Mode?

Even in his 70s, Rajinikanth remains a powerhouse in Indian cinema. He recently wrapped up shooting for Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj—one of the most highly anticipated movies of the year.

Now, all eyes are on his next big project: the much-awaited sequel Jailer 2, directed by Nelson Dilipkumar.

The first Jailer was a massive hit, grossing ₹600 crore worldwide, and is considered one of the biggest successes of Rajinikanth’s career. The role, perfectly suited to his age and persona, struck a chord with audiences.

Naturally, expectations for the sequel are sky-high. Nelson has reportedly been fine-tuning the script for some time, and casting is already underway.

According to Kollywood insiders, Vidya Balan is being considered for the female lead opposite Rajinikanth in Jailer 2. In the original, Ramya Krishnan played his wife, so this potential change has sparked considerable buzz among fans and industry observers.

However, Vidya Balan’s past outings in South Indian cinema haven’t met with much success. Films like Urumi (Malayalam) and NTR: Kathanayakudu & Mahanayakudu (Telugu) were disasters, and even her cameo in Ajith’s Nerkonda Paarvai didn’t make much of an impact commercially.

As a result, some fans are skeptical about her possible casting in Jailer 2. That said, these remain unconfirmed reports, and no official announcement has been made.

Following the original Jailer’s tradition of memorable cameos—featuring stars like Shiva Rajkumar, Mohanlal, and Jackie Shroff—the sequel is expected to continue the trend. A major rumor suggests that Nandamuri Balakrishna may make a guest appearance.

Adding to the excitement, strong buzz indicates that Nagarjuna is being considered for the role of the main antagonist.

He and Rajinikanth recently shared screen space in Coolie, and if cast, this would mark their second collaboration in quick succession. Nagarjuna playing a negative role could bring a fresh and intense dynamic to the film.
