The utterly poor reviews from the USA premieres and the highly discouraging talk from the early shows domestically have all resulted in the film turning out to be a non-starter at the box office.
After a disastrously poor opening day, the film plummeted further over the weekend. Agent, in its first weekend, came second to Virupaksha (2nd weekend) in most centers across the Telugu states. In some areas, it stood behind the poorly-promoted dubbed film, PS2.
Even in the USA, Agent has a very sorry story to tell. After a poor start where it collected $150K from premieres and day 1, it went nowhere at the box office. It collected a meager $10K on Sunday, taking the total tally to $183K.
Agent is now arguably one of the biggest all-time disasters in Telugu cinema. It is a humiliating result for Akhil, Surender Reddy, and everyone involved.
Given what was at stake with Agent, Akhil should be in dilemma now as the costliest project in his career is now one of the biggest disasterss of all-time in Telugu cinema. His hopes have come crashing down.
