Akhanda 2 New Date? Far Complicated Than It Appears

After Akhanda 2 Thaandavam missed its original release date December 5, fans immediately insisted the movie must release on December 12. However, for the production team, that date is far more complicated than it appears.

Although the main issue has been resolved, the official court order is still pending. Only after receiving that order can the team reapply for permissions from both state governments for premiere shows, special ticket pricing, and theatre regulations. Distribution agreements must also be revised, which takes time.

December 12 is already crowded. Films such as Mowgli, Psych Siddhartha, Eesha, and Anna Garu Vostaru have locked the date. No one knows yet which of these films will move if Akhanda 2 enters the same window.

From a trade perspective, some producers feel December 25 might be the safer option to encash the holiday period. However, Christmas weekend is also occupied with Champion and Shambala already securing screens and OTT deals. Adding to the complexity, Avatar: Fire and Ash arrives on December 19. If it performs strongly, it will dominate all over.

Despite these challenges, fans are putting pressure on the December 12 date. Many theatres have not removed decorations, cutouts, and banners put up for the original December 5 release.

Fans requested theatre owners to keep everything intact because they believe the movie’s arrival is round the corner. Social media escalated when rumors suggested a December 24 release, and hashtags demanding December 12 trended aggressively with fans stating this was not a request but a warning.

According to the latest developments, the situation around the release of Akhanda 2 has started moving in a positive direction. Distributors say the legal process is moving faster than expected. The formal court order is expected on Wednesday.

Distributors and theater owners have reportedly been instructed to prepare for premiere shows on December 11 and a full release on December 12. Local financial clearance is also expected by tomorrow. Unless another unexpected issue arises, all signs now suggest that Akhanda 2 will finally hit theatres on December 12.

Nearly eight films are scheduled to release on December 12. They include Anna Garu Vostaru starring Karthi, Psych Siddhartha backed by Suresh Productions, Mowgli directed by Sandeep Raj, and the horror film Eesha produced by Bunny Vas.

All four teams promoted aggressively and were counting on the absence of bigger competition to draw an audience. However, if Akhanda 2 suddenly joins the race, the entire lineup will be reshuffled overnight.

For now, the entire industry, distributors, theatres, producers, and fans, are waiting.
