Three New Dates for Akhanda 2: Netflix’s Choice May Win

Nandamuri Balakrishna’s Akhanda 2 release faced unexpected trouble at the last minute, and fans are deeply heartbroken. The film was postponed just minutes before premieres were scheduled to begin, leaving not only the audience but also Balakrishna, Boyapati Sreenu, distributors, theatre owners, and the entire production team shocked and upset. Even though yesterday’s discussions reportedly moved in a positive direction, several hurdles still remain.

The biggest task now is locking a new release date. December 12 is being considered, but only if all legal paperwork is completed quickly. Some sources say the situation may be resolved by Tuesday or Wednesday, but nothing is confirmed yet. December 19 and December 25 are also in the race. However, December 19 comes with a challenge because Avatar Fire and Ash releases worldwide on the same weekend and that may affect international screens. Sankranthi 2025 is already overcrowded with nearly seven confirmed releases, so that window is not practical either.

Because of this sudden postponement, the team must now rework theatre agreements and business deals with distributors. Discussions around ticket rates and revenue sharing may have to restart from scratch. Exhibitors are particularly concerned about whether this unexpected delay will dent the film’s opening day collections at the box office.

On the positive side, the Madras High Court has now lifted the stay order, giving legal clearance to the team. The makers have confirmed that they are working fast to resolve pending financial matters and will announce a new date soon.

Right now, three dates are under consideration.
December 12
December 19
December 25 Christmas

Among these, insiders believe Christmas is the most suitable option. Netflix, the OTT partner, has also reportedly suggested a December 25 release to cash on the holiday period till New Year’s Eve. These days OTTs dictate the release date so the makers most probably might go with what Netflix is suggesting.

However, Christmas already has multiple Telugu releases lined up, including Shambala, Champion, Patang, Dandora, and others. If Akhanda 2 joins that weekend, many of those films may be forced to move.

For now, fans are waiting for clarity. If things go as expected, an official announcement should arrive within the next few days.
