Akhil Akkineni seems stuck in a cycle where things just do not fall into place for him.
Right from the beginning, his journey has been full of struggles and mishaps. His debut Akhil, made on a big budget with the in-form director VV Vinayak, ended up as a disaster. Then came Hello, which was a decent film but failed at the box office, largely due to the strong run of Nani’s MCA.
Mr. Majnu, directed by Venky Atluri, also failed. Most Eligible Bachelor did slightly better, but much of the credit went to Pooja Hegde, who was in peak form at the time.
After a break, Akhil returned with Agent, directed by Surender Reddy. It turned out to be an epic disaster, and the impact of that failure is still being felt.
Hoping for a reset, after taking time to rethink his choices, Akhil started Lenin, produced by Naga Vamsi. The film is directed by Murali Kishore Abburu and stars Bhagyashri Borse as the female lead. But even here, things are not going smoothly. There were casting changes. Sreeleela was initially part of the film but was replaced by Bhagyashri Borse.
The film first aimed for a March end release. It was then pushed to May 1 because of Peddi, starring Ram Charan. Later, when Peddi itself shifted to April 30, Lenin was postponed again, now to June 26. Interestingly, Akhil shares a good rapport with Ram Charan, which is said to be one of the reasons for avoiding a clash with Peddi.
But the repeated postponements have now become a talking point. Some people are even joking and hoping that Peddi does not shift again to June 26, because that would push Lenin once more.
Let us hope Lenin turns out to be that big success that Akhil has been waiting for since his debut 11 years ago.
