Alia Bhatt’s Cannes debut has been postponed and multiple sources confirm it’s because of the India-Pakistan tensions.
The festival started on May 13 and goes on till May 24 and Alia was supposed to be a brand ambassador for L’Oréal Paris along with other global icons and fellow Indian star Aishwarya Rai Bachchan on the red carpet.
According to sources, Alia was supposed to attend the opening ceremony and a few other events at Cannes. But with the border situation escalating, she decided to stay back in India and show solidarity with her country during this sensitive time.
On May 13, Alia posted an emotional message on social media talking about the national anxiety and the sacrifices of Indian soldiers which further fuelled the speculation about her absence from the festival.
Despite this last minute change, there’s still a chance Alia might attend Cannes later in the festival as the situation between India and Pakistan seems to be stabilizing after a ceasefire.
Her team is keeping a close watch and an official update about her appearance will be out soon. Alia’s decision to put national sentiment over international glamour has won many hearts and shows her sense of responsibility and connection to current events.
For now her Cannes debut is on hold but fans are hoping for a surprise appearance before the festival ends.
