After ANR, another legend reveals his acute disease

When is the right time for a senior megastar to reveal about the acute illness he has been suffering from nearly, close to two decades? Amitabh Bachchan chose to use the dais of ‘Hepatitis B Awareness Campaign’ to reveal about the disease he has been suffering from. Bachchan was diagnosed with liver cirrhosis 18 years ago.

By the time he was diagnosed, 75% of his liver was already damaged and since then he has been living with only 25% liver. Amitabh is a teetotaller but contracted Hepatitis B through blood transfusion. Way back on July 26, 1982, Amitabh was severely injured on the sets of his film ‘Coolie’ while shooting for a stunt sequence.

Doctors had to give 60 litres of blood collected from 200 donors. And through one of the donors, he contracted the acute illness. Since then, he was under strict medical assistance and diet. These facts he revealed to create awareness among people and to make them understand that the acute illness can be kept under control if taken proper medical assistance.
