End of Film-by-Film Ticket Pricing? AP Govt Steps In

The Andhra Pradesh government wants to clear up the confusion around movie ticket prices. Right now, ticket prices are decided film by film, with separate government orders depending on a movie’s budget. This has caused uncertainty for moviegoers and the film industry. To fix this, the government plans to introduce one common rule that will apply to all films.

The aim is to create a fair and transparent system that protects audiences from high ticket prices while also ensuring that filmmakers, distributors, and theatre owners can run their businesses sustainably. Instead of changing prices for every new movie, ticket rates may be decided based on clear categories, such as low budget and high budget films.

Before finalizing the policy, the government will listen to the views of producers, distributors, and theatre owners. Discussions are also happening around actor salaries, pricing differences between multiplexes and single screen theatres, and how much filming should be done within Andhra Pradesh.

The government also wants to encourage filmmakers to shoot more movies in the state, which could boost tourism and create jobs. Once all discussions are completed, a new government order will be issued. Overall, the goal is to support the film industry while keeping cinema affordable for the public and turning Andhra Pradesh into a strong center for film production.
