Despite having a huge budget of $300 million and high expectations, Citadel fails to impress as it is a predictable and unoriginal series that heavily relies on overused spy genre tropes. Unless the show takes a miraculous turnaround in the upcoming episodes, Citadel will remain an underwhelming show that has only style and no substance.
The Indian version of this series is also in the making that stars Samantha and Varun Dhawan. The series is being helmed by Raj & DK, who created successful web series like The Family Man and Farzi.
If the Indian version is the same as the Hollywood version, then it might turn out to be a big misfire. The original version itself is turning out to be strictly ordinary, and Samantha’s Citadel is going to be a remake that will definitely have adverse effects.
Also, comparisons with Priyanka may prove to be costly for Sam. Priyanka has the looks and personality which make her look convincing as the spy who can kick the ass of her opponents.
Samantha has a hugely challenging task on her hand to match Priyanka’s screen presence. Sam recently suffered a big setback with Shaakuntalam, and she can’t afford another shock in the form of the Indian version of Citadel. Also, it is difficult to imagine a rookie like Varun Dhawan in the shoes of Richard Madden.
Raj and DK have to make a lot of changes to the script of Hollywood’s Citadel to make it a compelling watch for our Indian audience.
