Avatar 3 is shaping up for a strong opening in India and could outperform Dhurandhar and Chhaava at the box office. After a muted year for Hollywood releases, Avatar: Fire And Ash is expected to end 2025 on a positive note.
Advance bookings for the film opened two weeks ahead of release on December 5. Since then, booking trends have remained steady across major multiplex chains, reflecting consistent interest among urban audiences.
As per industry data till December 14, Avatar: Fire And Ash has sold nearly 50,000 tickets in national chains. PVR Inox leads the sales, with Cinepolis contributing a significant share.
Weekend advance bookings across these chains have crossed 100,000 tickets. The demand is particularly strong for premium formats, which usually drive higher opening day revenues.
Going by the current pace, the film is expected to collect over Rs. 30 crore on its opening day in India. This places it among the top Hollywood openers of the year.
Matching the Rs. 40 crore opening of Avatar: The Way Of Water could be challenging. Even so, the film is likely to become the biggest Hollywood opener of 2025, ahead of Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning and The Conjuring: Last Rites.
Key comparisons include Spider-Man: No Way Home and the Hindi film Chhaava, both of which crossed Rs. 30 crores on day one. Recent hit Dhurandhar opened at a lower 24 crores, making Avatar 3 well placed to beat it.
The final opening figure will depend on last-minute bookings and actual footfalls. Evening and late-night shows could play a decisive role.
The Christmas and New Year holiday period is expected to further boost collections. Extended holidays often support stronger weekday numbers for big-ticket releases.
If audience response remains positive, Avatar: Fire And Ash could sustain well beyond its opening weekend. A long theatrical run similar to the previous film remains possible.
Ultimately, the film’s overall box office performance will rely more on word of mouth than advance booking trends alone.
