Under the chairmanship of Hindupur MLA, Nandamuri Balakrishna, Basavatarakam Cancer hospital has got international recognition. The hospital is one of the best in the country and is treating the cancer patients from various parts of the globe. But the hospital remained in Telangana after the state bifurcation and now Balakrishna is planning to start one more such hospital in the residual Andhra Pradesh to cater the needs of more patients there.
The hospital was started by Late Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao after his wife Basavatarakam died of cancer. The hospital was named after her. When started, the hospital was in a small three-storey building with a hundred beds and now it is spread over four multi-storeyed buildings with 500 beds and is providing quality cancer treatment. Establishing similar hospital in the new Andhra Pradesh is one of the poll promises of Balayya.
