Below-The-Belt Comments: Madam, NOT Fair

Senior actress Raadhika Sarathkumar caused a stir on Twitter, which we find totally unnecessary given her decades-long tenure in the entertainment industry.

In a cryptic tweet, she questioned if anyone had cringed while watching a movie, expressing her desire to throw up after watching a specific film.

The responses largely targeted Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Animal, currently streaming on Netflix.

Despite the social media uproar, Raadhika chose not to clarify her statement, leaving it open to interpretation. Tamil fans engaged in mocking, abusing, and trolling Vanga’s film, even if they might not have watched Animal.

Is it fair for a senior actress to insult a movie or its makers by claiming to feel nauseated after watching?

Has she ever criticized a Tamil movie in such a harsh manner, or does this sentiment only apply to films from other industries?

One might question why few Bollywood critics went harsh on Animal. However, it’s essential to note that professional criticism, coming from individuals earning money in the same entertainment industry, differs significantly from hitting another filmmaker with below-the-belt comments. There is a substantial difference between the two.

By the way, she called Animal cringe – what about Vijay’s Varisu? Is this not a cringe film? Is Varisu a new-age, out-of-the-box film, Madam? Can she dare to make the same type of comments on a big-star Tamil film?
