Big films face shorter promotion windows
Big films usually start creating noise weeks before their theatrical arrival. Teasers, songs, trailers, interviews and major events are carefully planned to build momentum. But several upcoming biggies are now entering their release windows without the expected promotional rush.
The reason appears to be more complicated than simply delaying promotions. OTT commitments and other business deals are increasingly tying producers to their announced theatrical dates. Once digital deals and delivery timelines are locked, changing the release date can create complications across multiple business fronts.
This isn’t just the case with Nani’s The Paradise. Several films that are ready or nearing completion are yet to begin the kind of aggressive promotional campaigns normally expected from projects of their scale. With release dates already locked, teams are being forced to work with increasingly narrow promotional windows.
The Paradise, which is just a week away from release, is one visible example of this trend. The team has been occupied with the final stages of the film while its promotional campaign is happening much closer to release than usual.
For large-scale movies involving VFX, editing, sound and other technical work, the final stages can stretch close to release. When OTT commitments make postponement difficult, promotions are often the part that gets squeezed.
The bigger concern is clear: big films are getting locked into release dates, while their promotional campaigns are being pushed into the final stretch.
