Blockbuster In Theaters, Disaster On OTT

It is not mandatory that any film that has turned out to be a blockbuster at the box office receives the same response on the OTT platform.

Bollywood finally hit the jackpot with the Kartik Aaryan starrer Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2. The film earned 180 crores and is now chasing the 200 crore net at the box office, which is unprecedented. The film was released on Netflix last week, but the response from the digital audience is quite the opposite of the theatrical audience.

Those who have watched BB2 on Netflix are slamming the film on social media, saying that the film neither has enough horror nor does it have any rib-tickling comedy. Except for Kiara Advani’s glamor and Tabu’s performance in the climax, there’s nothing special about the film. Many are also saying that the main plot of the film is copied from Priyamani’s flop film Charulatha.

Another film that was a great success at the box office but is receiving a lukewarm response on the digital platform is Sivakarthikeyan’s Don. The OTT audience is simply not able to connect with the comedy or emotions shown in the film like the theatrical audience connected.
