‘Bramayugam,’ a folk horror movie released in 2024, took the Malayalam industry by storm in February. The film became a blockbuster by collecting more than 60 crores at the box office.
Directed by Rahul Sadasivan and boldly presented in black and white, the film is in the spotlight again as it prepares for its highly anticipated OTT debut.
It’s all set to premiere on SonyLIV on March 15, 2024 (tonight). Originally just in Malayalam, now it’s going multilingual—Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, and Kannada on OTT.
“Brayamugam” starts strong but loses steam by the time it ends. The film is embellished with great acting and cool visuals, but the story is a bit predictable, especially towards the end. The first half is too slow, and it doesn’t really pay off. It’s unique, but not quite satisfying.
Owing to its craze in Malayalam, the film was dubbed in Telugu and was released in theaters. But the film flopped miserably. The Telugu theatrical audience couldn’t connect with its story and setup. The genre also had a limited appeal.
Now it’s streaming on OTT and cinephiles are eager to immerse themselves in the unique world of Bramayugam. All eyes are on how the film will resonate with the digital audience.
We’ll have to wait and see how OTT viewers react to Bramayugam—will they love it like the Malayalam theatrical audience, or not so much like the Telugu theatrical audience?
