Nag Ashwin took nearly 6 years to devise and execute Kalki. After Mahanati(2018) he took his own sweet time in making Kalki which eventually total led to six years. At the end of it, he delivered a winning product though.
Nag Ashwin doesn’t come across as a mainstream commercial director with the intention of making films consecutively. He’s more of a rooted filmmaker who only makes a film with all of his heart.
At this rate, between 2018-2028, in a span of a decade Nagi would’ve made 3 films. This might be a norm these days, given the pan Indian trend but at the same time, it is natural for the audience to expect more from such young and creative filmmakers.
Once Kalki 2 is done and released, the chances are that Ashwin might disappear again for a while, unless of course he has a new idea ready in his mind.
If Nagi can streamline this process and work on getting a film readied in a span of 2-2.5 years, it could further excite the Telugu folk.
That said, Nagi is an active producer as well, these days so he will have his creative juices flowing anyway.
Another interesting thing about his directorial career would be to see if he would make another pan Indian film or if he’d stick to a rooted Telugu film after Kalki 2.
