Salaar, which released in December 2023, did decent business of 150 crores at the Hindi box office. The clash with Shah Rukh Khan’s Dunki proved costly, or else it would have easily collected around 200-225 crores.
Organically, the film had a below-average trend in the North. This means a rejection of the Prashanth Neel brand of cinema by the Hindi theater-going audience, but there seems to be some rebound in the reception of the film lately.
People are repeatedly watching some episodes from the film on OTT and becoming fans of it. Even those who didn’t like the film during its theatrical release are now appreciating the action blocks and its nuances. The world of Khansaar has fascinated a section of audiences.
Salaar’s release on Disney+Hotstar made it reach a wider audience, as the film trended for 300 days on one of the biggest OTT platforms. The film has remained in the top 10 which is indeed a big achievement.
If the sequel, Salaar Part 2: Shouryanga Parvam, gets made, it would definitely be a much bigger hit than part 1 and will aim for 350-400 crores net from Hindi.
So, there is a chance Salaar 2 might do really well, but certainly nothing close to Pushpa 2, which is going to do around 700 crore net from Hindi alone.
