War 2 is just a week away from release, and theatres are preparing for a rush of audiences eager to watch it. The film carries a massive budget and is part of the hit YRF Spy Universe, which already sets high expectations. Directed by a new filmmaker, it brings back Hrithik Roshan as Kabir and features Jr. NTR in a major villain role.
The makers have cleverly kept the plot under wraps in the trailer, building curiosity. While a strong opening in the Hindi belt seems certain, the real test will be in the Telugu states. Jr. NTR’s huge popularity there and the film’s Telugu release are expected to boost numbers. Previous Spy Universe films have done decently in this market, but this one has been sold at a premium price.
For War 2 to break even in the Telugu states, it must gross at least Rs. 160 crore, which is five times more than Pathaan’s performance in the same region. Whether that happens will depend on strong word of mouth after release. The action, glamour, and large-scale stunts could draw in big crowds if the response is positive.
Overall, the film is expected to aim for Rs. 800 crore or more in worldwide collections during its theatrical run. With the release set for August 14, it will soon be clear if War 2 will match or surpass the success of earlier Spy Universe instalments.
